Today has been a very special day holding significant meaning. The San Francisco Chapter had the great honor to have Guo Cheh Fashi to host this memorable event on location. Fashi began by addressing the two main purposes for today. One is to commemorate Shifu\u2019s everlasting and untiring teaching with our deepest and heartiest gratitude, on this second anniversary of Shifu\u2019s passing, now marked as the Dharma Drum Passing of the Wisdom Lamp Day, which was observed with commemorative activities alike by all Dharma Drum locations across the world, including United States, Europe, Taiwan and South East Asia. Two is to \u201cpass-on\/carry-on the Wisdom Lamp\u201d as to spread, broaden and share Shifu\u2019s teaching, Chinese Chan Buddhism, to all sentient beings around us and everywhere we go, so they too can be benefited the rising of wisdom and ridding of vexation from within \u2013 thus \u201clighting-up\u201d for a better and peaceful world.<\/p>\n

Today\u2019s program was well thought-out and meticulously planned. A documentary film about Shifu\u2019s humble beginning in New York \u2013 \u201cHis Imprints and Lagacy\u201d \u2013 kicked off a deep sense of emotion amongst all attendees that was simply touching and continued strong throughout the day. It then followed by a number of interlaced activities of watching DVD on Shifu\u2019s Dharma and Chan teachings, sitting meditation sessions and an outdoor walking meditation session \u2013 all aimed at deepening our practice through our daily activities with the right view as taught by Shifu. <\/p>\n

\"\"The program ended with all attendees sitting in a circle sharing our reflections for the day and a Wisdom Lamp vowing ceremony. The afterthoughts among us, from a total of seventeen (17) Dharma Sisters (two came many miles away with one of them as far as Texas) and Brothers plus Guo Cheh Fashi, ranged from unforgettable encounters with Shifu and\/or Dharma Drum Mountain, experience and practical application of Dharma and Chan in our daily lives, to the overwhelming emotionally-charged desire to learn more about Dharma and to practice deeper on Chan \u2013 to better serve, spread and share with others. And with the momentous vowing ceremony, where we took turn to hold a lighted candle, affirming our vows in silence and then passing it on to the next person \u2013 really wrapped up the day with a sense of meaningful completion for the two main purposes for today.<\/p>\n

Although today has come to an end and so did the commemoration, yet this event has conveyed and embedded something very significant deep within all our hearts\u2026the meaning of Passing on the Wisdom Lamp\u2026and the journey has just begun, across the world\u2026from all bodhi hearts\u2026 <\/p>\n
