Lunar New Year Community Spring Cleaning
In the story of the Buddha’s disciple Suddhipanthaka, Suddipanthaka said: “As I sweep away the dust, I wipe away the filth [in mind]”. This carries the profound meaning that we can purify the mind through simple acts of cleaning and sweeping.
In the history of Chinese Buddhism, Chan Master Baizhang Huaihai of the Tang Dynasty is credited for introducing a system of monastic discipline and formalizing the tradition of communal labor for monastics. Work practice is not only a rote routine but also a living spirit of cleansing the mind through the act of cleaning our surroundings.
On February 7, we sincerely invite you to join our annual Lunar New Year spring cleaning. Gathering under the auspices of the Three Jewels, let us take action together—cleaning the temple and purifying our minds!
